ALVOR SUNSHINE HOLIDAY VILLA, AT THE HEART OF THE ALGARVE

ALVOR:

Our holiday apartment is located on the outskirts of the picturesque coastal village Alvor, which is a 30 minute drive south from Faro Airport.

Alvor is situated at the heart of the Algarve and is a perfect base for sightseeing or relaxing. There are major golf facilities, beautiful golden soft sand beach and shopping all close by. (See Map)

Pretty white washed narrow streets have prevented developers from erecting the concrete monstrosities which have plagued much of the larger towns on the Algarve. Alvor still has plenty of the memories of the old Portuguese fishing village left intact.

The village faces a natural lagoon opening out into the sea, which is perfect for sailing trips. There are numerous beautiful secluded coves under the cliffs with lovely beaches waiting to be found.

Alvor also has its fair share of tasty places to eat and drink around town. The really good ones are often hidden away in the narrow streets just waiting to be discovered. Remember, as we live locally we can provide tips on all the best restaurants and bars in town.

Alvor is a very family friendly place steeped in history with plenty to see and do:

• Averages only 17 days a year of rainfall!
• Something for everyone; quiet life or nightlife!
• Near to Pro Golf facilities and major towns for extended shopping and sightseeing.

Places of Interest:

Portimao:

Is a commercially orientated town and is very popular with tourists. It is the main shopping area on the Algarve with many large shopping malls and department stores. Portimao is a ten minute drive away from Alvor, and there is also a regular bus service.

A new marina has just been built adjoining the popular tourist area of Praia da Rocha. With this has come a plethora of new bars and restaurants which can become very busy in peak season!

Portimao has a very busy nightlife with plenty of nightclubs and late night bars for all night owls!

Lagos:

Is an ancient maritime town with more than 2,000 years of history! Lagos is about 15 minutes away by car and again there is a good bus service from Alvor.

Lagos became important during the 15^th century at the height of Portuguese exploration. Prince Henry the Navigator lived most of his life in Lagos and there are lots of reminders of its past.

You will find quaint antique shops great for bargain hunting, and it’s a perfect place to pick up Portuguese souvenirs. Lagos also has some fantastic restaurants and is a lovely place to spend the evening alfresco dining and watching the world go by (very slowly).
